Commune-Shirt
The commune-shirt embodies the essence of community, portraying social and cultural backgrounds that shape society. This shirt is stitched from old shirts collected from different caste communities in India. The collective effort of a tailor and myself in India was to cut and repurpose pieces from these shirts, stitching them into a single functional shirt. This collective effort to combine different cloth pieces symbolizes blending diverse cloth pieces to create harmony, a powerful symbol of unity, inspiring us to blur socio-cultural boundaries. Each cloth piece, with its unique line, color, pattern, and texture, contributes to creating a shirt that offers a truly unique and cohesive aesthetic experience. The resulting shirt creates an aura emphasizing interconnectedness and togetherness, serving as a powerful metaphor for Living Together. This commune-shirt celebrates the beauty of collectiveness and togetherness and aligns with Vasudaiva Kutumbhakam (The world is one family).
